gen-la Jampa GP

New quote about how GP can benefit your life…. on the Three Study Programs we can gradually increase our wisdom until it is completely mature, like a full moon. With this kind of wisdom we will have a firm, stable confidence when teaching Dharma to others.”

General Program Classes

Everyone is welcome!

General Program (GP) classes are drop-in by nature and are suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Classes explore the basic framework of Buddhist teachings and meditation and explain how to use Buddha’s advice to solve our problems and find a meaningful life.

All General Program classes are based on commentaries by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

A typical class consists of a preliminary guided meditation, a teaching and a final meditation. Although classes are given as a series around one specific topic, they can also be taken individually, as each class is self-contained.

All classes and courses are taught by qualified Kadampa teachers who have a thorough understanding of Buddhist philosophy gained through guided study and meditation practice based on Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s comprehensive texts.

Classes last between one hour to 1.5 hours. Chair and cushions are provided by the Center. There is no physical exercise, yoga, or stretching involved.

Everyone is welcome regardless of belief. You do not need to be Buddhist to attend or to benefit from these teachings.

where should I start?

Our most popular class is on Sunday morning which includes meditation and practical advice for daily life. It is beginner friendly and a way to experience the International Kadampa Retreat Center and all it has to offer. Temple tours are offered after the class, our cafe and gift shop are open before and after the class. Often people choose to stay and enjoy lunch with the community. If you live around Prescott, we offer a class to those living in the area on Tuesdays.

Our drop-in GP classes are complemented by additional weekend courses and retreats which generally cover related content, perfect for those who are new or experienced. Check out our upcoming courses and retreats.

For those who have been coming for awhile and would like to deepen their experience, consider joining our Foundation Program or Teacher Training Program.
